Educational Journeys
We specialize in customized
learning adventures for high school and university groups from the U.S. and Canada. Together with North American educators, we design unique, 2-3 week travel programs in Ecuador and Peru that complement classroom studies, and allow students to use and expand their skills in the field. Educational journeys challenge students intellectually, and enlighten them through first-hand encounters with local people and natural environments in Ecuador and Peru.
Tiputini Amazon Research Station A visit to this international research station in Ecuador allows students to observe wildlife and learn about current and ongoing research.
Service Projects
Our community service projects allow student travelers the opportunity to enter rural communities and participate in activities such as teaching English, building or painting a school, and helping to harvest and plant native crops. These projects are rewarding experiences that promote direct interaction with community members and encourage participants to practice and enhance their Spanish language skills.
Core Content
Although we tailor each educational journey to a particular group’s specific needs and interests, the following are samples of some our core components:
- Rural school visit and interaction with local students and teachers
- Tour of a farm and discussion with local farmers
- Explore a research station or nature reserve and discussion about ecological challenges
- Lectures and seminars with local guides, naturalists, and professors
- Visits to major historical and archeological sites
- Hike an active volcano and surfing in Galapagos
- Spanish language study, a native homestay, or service projects.
Multidisciplinary programs We offer broad learning adventures that incorporate travel to several of our destinations, and provide academic content relevant to many disciplines of study:
- George Mason University offers a 3-credit Ecuador program with Andean Discovery that is open to students of any academic discipline and includes travel throughout the Andes Mountains and Galápagos Islands.
- The Bronx Lab High School offers an Ecuador program with Andean Discovery that includes village homestays in the Andes Mountains and wildlife observation in the Amazon rainforest at an international research station.
