Upon evening arrival in Lima, you will be met by our staff and transferred to your airport hotel.

Overnight: Lima Airport Ramada

Note: Superior lodging is listed. Please contact us for information about Standard lodging.

This morning take a short flight to Cusco and begin your journey into the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Your first stop is the indigenous, centuries-old market in Pisac, where you can sample a variety of foods and purchase colorful indigenous handicrafts. Above the market lies the largest fortress-city complex of the Incas. Your guide will lead you on a walking tour through the ruins and the hillside terraces, part of the sophisticated Inca agricultural system. You may opt to hike to the ruins from the Pisac market. After lunch check in at your cozy Andean lodge located near the community of Urubamba.

Overnight: Sol y Luna Lodge & Spa (B, L)

Experience one of the world’s great train rides, with stunning views of the Urubamba river gorge, on your way to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes, you will be greeted by staff from your luxurious eco-lodge. This afternoon choose from several activities at the lodge, including a nature walk in the orchid pavilion, natural sweat lodge-sauna, bird observation, or relax on your own. An additional visit to the Machu Picchu ruins can be scheduled for this afternoon if desired. This evening enjoy dinner at the lodge.

Overnight: Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel (B, L, D)

This morning take a short bus ride to the sacred ruins of Machu Picchu for a private tour. Explore the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, ceremonial fountains and baths, and the Sacred Plazas. Opt for an exhilarating one-hour hike up the steep trail to the summit of Huayna Picchu (Young Peak) for a breath-taking bird’s-eye view of Machu Picchu. (Tickets must be purchased in advance.) After your visit, transfer to Aguas Calientes for lunch and board the train for Ollantaytambo where you will be met by your driver and transferred to Cusco. This evening enjoy dinner on your own at one of Cusco’s many fine restaurants.

Overnight: Picoaga Hotel Cusco (B, L)

Travel by foot and private vehicle during a city tour that takes you down Cusco’s cobbled streets and narrow passageways with brightly painted balconies overhead. Visit the historic Plaza de Armas, the Coricancha, the Inca’s Sun Temple, the Incan fortress of Sacsayhuaman, and the ceremonial pools of Tambo Machay. Enjoy lunch and dinner on your own. This evening stroll around the main plaza for views of the Cathedral lit up at night.

Overnight: Picoaga Hotel Cusco (B)

This morning board a comfortable, first class tourist bus and depart for Puno, a city that lies on the shore of Lake Titicaca. Stops along the way include Andahuaylillas, referred to as the Andean Sistine Chapel; Raqchi, an Inca temple; La Raya, the highest pass on the route between Cusco and Puno; and Pukara, the most important and oldest ceremonial site this side of Tiahuanaco. Arrive in Puno early this evening for your first views of Lake Titicaca. The Inca believed that Manco Capac, their cultural founder, emerged from the lake. Our staff will transfer you to the hotel located near the shore. Dinner this evening is on your own.

Overnight: Casa Andina Private Collection Puno (B, L)

Take a 45-minute boat ride to the floating islands of the Uros people. The Uros began building floating islands, made with the lake’s reed vegetation, centuries ago in an effort to isolate themselves from the Colla and Inca tribes. Sadly, the Uros language has died out, and today the islanders speak Aymara due to intermarriage with Aymara-speaking clans. About 300 families currently live on the islands. Continue another hour to Taquile Island. Taquile’s unique culture, style of dress, and lifestyle make for a memorable visit. The men of the community do all of the knitting while the women do the spinning. High quality, locally knitted goods are available for purchase at various cooperatives. This afternoon explore the island’s trails by foot with your guide. There are no roads on the island and several hills can be climbed to observe ancient ruins. After lunch return to Puno, and enjoy dinner on your own.

Overnight: Casa Andina Private Collection Puno (B, L)

On your way to the Juliaca airport this afternoon, visit the pre-Inca burial ground of Sillustani. Take a short walk for up-close observations of the funeral towers, which are among the finest and most perfect cylindrical constructions in all of ancient South America. Fly to Lima and board flights homeward. (B)
